First Projects Certified by SITESTM National Rating System for Sustainable Landscapes

The Sustainable Sites Initiative^TM (SITES^TM) has announced the first three projects to be certified by the nation's most comprehensive system for rating the sustainable planning, design, construction, and maintenance of built landscapes.

The corporate headquarters of an international manufacturing company, a new university green space, and a children's playground in an urban park are the first to be recognized for their sustainable land practices from among 150-plus pilot projects that began the certification process in summer 2010. These initial projects are the St. Charles, Missouri, campus of Novus International Inc.; the Green at College Park of the University of Texas at Arlington; and the Woodland Discovery Playground at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tenn.

General Assembly 2012

The 2012 General Assembly session begins Wednesday, January 11. Thanks to quick and decisive action by our Legislative Committee (Billy Almond, Rob McGinnis, LuGay Lanier and Andy Scherzer), our lobbyist, L. Preston Bryant, Jr. of McGuire Woods Consulting, LLC (MWC), and the many letters, calls and emails sent by you, the membership, to the Governor's Office, Landscape Architects are not included in pending legislation to carry out the recommendations of the Governor's Commission on Government Reform and Restructuring. There is no guarantee that someone will not try to add us back into this specific bill, or any bill, as legislation moves forward during the session.

ASLA Call for Awards - Deadline February 3

ASLA has released its 2012 awards call for entries for professionals and students and we would like to encourage you to enter.

Award recipients, their clients, and student advisors will be honored at the awards presentation ceremony during the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Phoenix, September 28 - October 1, 2012. The award winning projects will be featured in a video presentation at the ceremony and on the awards website following the event.
