The fourth edition of Landscape Architecture may well be the most comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of landscape architecture ever published. With the participation of over 100 individuals, firms and agencies worldwide, the fourth edition has been revamped and expanded, including professional photographs of works of landscape architecture throughout the globe.
The comprehensive nature of the book has resulted in its being a leading introductory text used in landscape architecture programs worldwide. The expanded fourth edition with enhanced examples of works of the profession and professional landscape photography also targets a broader audience, including the general public, to better communicate the depth and breadth of the profession.
The overall message of the book is that through proper planning and design - the application of the principles and practice of landscape architecture - people and their environments should and can be in harmony. It begins with the "big picture" of the universe, the world and the environment (nature) and how people and the "Human Habitat" fit into and are a part of nature. Through a unique combination of text, photography, diagrams, plans, renderings, etc., it describes and illustrates how to analyze, plan and design the use of land for environmental compatibility.
The jury comments on this submittal included:
- Excellent overall improvement from the original book most remembered as required text in school
- Much improved graphics and photos and updated content
- Now an even more valuable resource about the profession of landscape architecture
