    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The salary range for this position has been set at $50,000-$55,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with training and experience. Benefits include group hospitalization and life insurance, State Employees Retirement; Workers’ Compensation; sick and annual leave; numerous University of Tennessee and state benefits programs, including liberal time off for holidays and longevity pay after three years of service; reimbursement for official travel. This is a limited-duration appointment. Continuation of the position after June 30, 2024 is contingent upon additional funding and satisfactory work performance.

    The Tennessee RiverLine, an initiative of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, seek motivated and dynamic entry level candidates with an educational background in landscape architecture, architecture, or related field to join its growing team as Planning and Design Specialists. Candidates are expected to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the implementation of the Tennessee RiverLine vision by assisting in the delivery of planning and design initiatives that are aligned with its mission, guiding principles and strategic plan. Successful candidates will hold full-time staff positions at the University of Tennessee with a 100% appointment to the Tennessee RiverLine. These individuals will work with and report to members of the Planning and Design team.

    We are currently seeking an entry level Landscape Architect I/II to join our Ashburn, VA office location.

    Our award-winning landscape architecture and land planning studio offers an extensive range of consulting and design support to urban, commercial, parks and recreation, economic development, environmental, transportation, residential and government clients across multiple markets.  Applicants should be creative, open-minded, collaborative and motivated and possess strong design, graphic, and written communication skills.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Work with both public and private sectors on a diverse range of project types
    • Assist project teams with developing landscape plans through schematic design, design development, construction documents, and specifications
    • Assist in preparation of cost estimates and construction takeoffs
    • Prepare detailed master planning documents and illustrative design plans
    • Work collaboratively within landscape architecture and multi-disciplinary design teams
    • Set professional goals and work to achieve them annually

    Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Bachelor or Masters’ Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program is preferred but a non-accredited degree in Landscape Architecture may be considered
    • Must possess strong hand graphic skills and computer graphic design foundation
    • Advanced level of competency utilizing AutoCAD (Civil 3-D), SketchUp or Rhino, Adobe Creative Cloud, (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign). Experience with GIS and Land F/X is a bonus
    • Proficiency in writing reports, technical documents, and general correspondence
    • Ability to communicate with internal and external clients and colleagues to perform expected duties
    • Ability to solve challenging design and technical problems
    • Must be creative, open-minded, and organized
    • 2-8 years of professional experience preferred but candidates with less or more may be considered

    • Professional registration as a Virginia Licensed Landscape Architect or ability to obtain reciprocity quickly is required.
    • LEED or SITES Accreditation preferred but not required.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, 3-D modeling and Microsoft programs. 
    • Excellent hand-graphic and communication skills.
    • Must have a thorough understanding of project accounting and demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and budgets.
    • Must possess business development, client development, and marketing experience.
    • A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in landscape architecture preferred.

    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will serve as a Hazard mitigation Community Planner with FEMA's Region 3 Office. Typical assignments include:

    • Coordinating and providing technical assistance to state and local officials as applicable on the preparation, revision, or updating of hazard mitigation plans to comply with federal requirement, regulation, policies, and guidance.
    • Providing written recommendations for plan improvements
    • Tracking assigned plans through all elements of the review process, including data entry and drafting of review and approval letters. 
    • Coordinating with regional hazard mitigation planning team and supporting other mitigation activities as required.
    • Developing and delivering planning related training to state. local and tribal audiences, conferences and other outreach opportunities. 

    Promotion Potential: Positions filled under Stafford Act regulations generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned by CORE employees.
